The problem nobody was solving affordably
UK fleet operators have always had two choices: expensive enterprise software costing £200–750 per vehicle per year with hardware installations and multi-year contracts, or spreadsheets. Companies like Chevin, Jaama, and Fleetio serve the market well — but their pricing locks out the thousands of small and mid-size operators running 5 to 100 vehicles who still need MOT tracking, driver compliance, maintenance scheduling, and fuel monitoring.
The same gap exists in the workshop world. Independent garages and service centres are still running on paper job cards and whiteboards while paying through the nose for software that barely meets their needs.
The founder behind both products had seen this gap for years — three decades in the software industry, deep knowledge of fleet operations and vertical SaaS, but traditionally limited to a 4GL development environment. The ideas were always there. What changed was the tool.
Enter Claude — and 90 days that changed everything
Using Claude Code as the sole development resource, two full production applications were architected, built, tested, and deployed in under three months:
FleetEase — a comprehensive fleet management platform covering vehicles, drivers, maintenance, fuel, accidents, penalties, compliance, MOT/insurance/tax reminders, document management, inspections, and a full HGV compliance layer including O-Licence management, tachograph tracking, trailer management, and the Driver CPC framework. It includes FleetIQ, a built-in AI assistant that proactively surfaces compliance gaps before they become DVSA prosecutions. Multi-company architecture with row-level security, a full audit trail, and a mobile PWA for drivers.
WorkshopEase — AI-powered workshop management for garages, dealerships, and service centres. Technician scheduling, vehicle bay management, digital job cards, parts tracking, invoicing, and customer management — everything a modern workshop needs to replace the clipboard.
The tech stack is production-grade: Flask and PostgreSQL on the backend (hosted on Neon), React on the frontend, deployed via Render with blueprint architecture and JWT authentication. This isn’t a prototype — it’s enterprise-depth software with a consistent design language across every module.
The valuation: £150,000 and growing
An independent technical assessment valued the combined platforms at £100,000–£150,000 on replacement cost alone — what it would cost a professional development team to rebuild from scratch at £600–800/day over 12–18 months. The AI integration and HGV compliance depth were identified as genuine competitive moats that most fleet software in the SME market simply doesn’t have.
But the real story is what happens next. SaaS businesses are valued on Annual Recurring Revenue multiples — typically 3× to 6× ARR for vertical SME software, rising to 8–12× with strong growth and low churn:
At 500 customers with mixed fleet and HGV pricing, this is a credible £1.5–2m business and an attractive acquisition target for trade buyers in the fleet technology space. At 1,000 customers, it’s meaningful exit territory — the kind of outcome that would traditionally require a funded team, years of development, and millions in capital.
Why this matters beyond one company
This story isn’t just about fleet management. It’s about what becomes possible when domain expertise — the kind that takes decades to accumulate — meets AI tools powerful enough to turn that knowledge directly into software. No hiring cycle. No fundraising. No 18-month development runway. Just expertise, a clear market gap, and Claude.
There are thousands of experienced operators in every industry who’ve been sitting on product ideas for years because the barrier to building was too high. That barrier is gone. The question is no longer “can I build this?” — it’s “do I understand the problem well enough?”
In this case, the answer was yes. And two enterprise-grade products shipped in 90 days to prove it.
